I remember hearing about the first huge wave of layoffs (in, what was it, 2005?) I was still pretty much a believer at that time but this news really bothered me. There was a bethel heavy at the last talk of the DC boasting about what great things the WTS had in store, all the "expanding" that was going on. And how wonderful it was that they were sending home one third of the Bethel staff. They are just like the "world", I thought. Except when a "worldly" corporation has a massive layoff, it is a tragedy, corporate greed, failing economy, sign of the times, satan's wicked system. No, 1000 people lose, not just their jobs, but their homes; its Jehovah's blessing.

Well, he probablly wasn't a real Witness. I mean, was he even baptized? How many meetings did he go to? Besides, a real witness wouldn't get drunk either.

I love this song! It always appears out of nowhere and with no explanation, just like on this thread - no reason. Someone made a song about Troy Polamalu to this tune last year or two years ago. It was really funny.

Thinking of giving it all up!
by eyeslice ini am sure this isn't a mid-life crisis i have done that and got out of the jws.
.
but i am seriously thinking of just leaving the west with its rat race, emphasis on money, senseless tv and media, cars, shopping malls, pre-packaged food, supermarkets, etc, etc, and moving to india to live in a small cottage near a beach somewhere.. anyone else got the urge to get out of the rat-race?.

I just watched "Into the Wild" last weekend. It kind of made the idea of "giving it all up" less romantic, at least for me. Anybody else see it?

I read this much, "by David Icke" and it was enough for me.
He thinks JW's and Mormons are the same thing but he also thinks that Jews and lizzards are the same thing.

I'm a fitness model and I am a, um, "artistic" photogapher. With my married name, nothing - even in quotes.

Another method of witness time-wasting
by ldrnomo inyesterday as i was getting ready to go out i noticed from my bedroom window two women dressed in witness garb heading toward my house i didn't recognize them so when i answered the door they asked me if i was spanish speaking i said no and they then asked me if i knew of anyone the the neighborhood that was and i said no they thanked me and went off to the next door (doing the pioneer shuffle) to ask the same question.
so this must have taken up a whole morning.
my wife and i thought they could have spent their time so much more affectivly sitting in a coffee shop and saying olaaaa to each customer that came in and when one answered back they could have spewed their bs on them in spanish..

A friend of mine used to be in the "local" (half hour drive for Spanish, 5 minute drive for English) Spanish congregation. Goodness! The time and gas that they would waste. The Spanish congregation's territory was practically all of southwestern PA. They would meet in the morning, pile into cars and drive all day to some house that was reported to have a Spanish speaking person there. When they got there, nobody was home. Then they would drive for another 2 hours, looking for another reportedly Spanish speaking person. Joining the Spanish congregation is called "going where the need is great".

Watch a mind controlled cult member, Tom Cruise on Scientology
by Layla33 incatch it, it's some wild stuff, like watching a bethelite after a talk.
ugh!.

I didn't really find it creepy, just awful. If you are going to spend the money to make a video and hire Tom Cruise at least tell him to use more types of words other that pronouns. He really didn't say anything at all. It was ten minutes of him saying "I have to help them. We have to do things. We are the only ones that can change it. It won't get better without us". What is "it", who are "them", what is your plan? But I guess that is how to make an effective pep-talk video. Leave it up to the individual to fill in the blanks - makes it one size fits all. Obviously this wasn't a recruitment video.

Why the Watchtowers "War" argument is totally bogus
by drew sagan infrom my own personal experience the watchtowers position on war always appeared to be one of the most difficult issues to navigate.
a number of times when i was first leaving the wts i spoke with jws who all used this argument to show me how "wrong" i was about the "truth".
while i knew the watchtowers arguments where wrong, i had a very difficult time figuring out exactly why it was wrong.

Undoing the Damage
by Amber Rose inso, i was reading this thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/150394/1.ashx about psychological damage caused by being raised as a jw.
most seem to agree that yes, jw indoctrination is damaging to children.
so here is my question: what do we do about it?

Evita,
It has been extremely difficult to shake the belief that all "worldly" endeavors are dangerous and futile.
I think this has been my biggest obstacle also. I quit attending meetings just over one year ago, and I have shed alot of the of my cynicism about the world in general, but there still sometimes is a nasty residue. I'm going to be starting school next week. Being around people and learning stuff should help me feel like a real person, I hope.
